This week students are continuing to work individually on the rough drafts of their research report that is due May 4. With their group, they are working through the Action Plan To do lists. We are adding the group action topics to our class bulletin boards too. There is alot of variety in action including lake clean up day, letter writing, card creations for cancer patients, website creation, setting up a booth at Loomis Family night, communicating information at Mustang Round Up, creating a podcast, and lots more! Many groups are working through communication conflicts and forming better action plans. We will be ending the week reflecting on what we've learned so far about communication, problem solving, planning, teamwork, research, etc.

Students are starting to write the first draft of their independent research report while simultaneously planning action with their team. Each group met (or is meeting this week) with Mr. V, Mrs. Barberio and Mrs. Holm today to check off each inquiry question's research and identify possible actions. Progress sheets go home to parents showing what they are missing and how parents can help them at this point. Teams will meet with mentors this week to plan out action using Action Plan worksheet in their binders. Some groups have found that they are missing vital parts of their research so they have some catch up to do.

Students are starting to wrap up their research. This has proved to quite a challenge with the vast amount of information available on the web. Many students are finding that they can get a good answer to their Perspective key concept question by conducting a personal interview and/or a survey. So this is what many groups are doing this week. Mentors are having their 1st progress meeting with their groups and are giving great advice and direction on what to do next. We are also excited to hear the field trip proposals that groups are organizing to supplement their research. Those places include: EcoStation, Fish Hatchery, Zoo, Solar company, Kaiser Hospital, and fast food restaurants.

Students worked independently in their groups to research their 4 lines of inquiry. Many groups made lots of progress and have hand written notes. Tonight they will each write an update (summary) on their group's wiki home page of what they've accomplished so far and where they are going next or what they need help with. Mentors can read these updates and post comments to their group and offer advice, suggestions, affirmations.

Thank you mentors for coming to the student-mentor breakfast this morning! I'm glad you were able to meet with your team and learn more about where they are headed with their topic. As Mrs. Barberio, Mr. V, and I walked around, we saw lots of great conversations and questions going on. Hopefully you all were able to also get a quick "tutorial" on using our Wiki. One thing we didn't mention was that groups have their own "project" section on the Wiki but within that project you'll start seeing multiple pages. Groups will start adding research pages for each of their key concept questions. If you click on "Pages & Files" in the menu bar on the left ( after you've clicked on their Project home page), you'll see all the pages they have created. By tomorrow, most groups will have a page with the title of their first key concept (FORM) question.--Mrs. Holm

WOW, what an amazing start to our 2012 Exhibition!! So far, we have brainstormed many interesting issues that relate to our central idea. We have also had a lot of wonderful class discussions and most importantly, some fun team building activities. As I sit here at the end of another productive day, I am so excited and proud of those of you that are already beginning your research and are using the Wiki! You are all an amazing group of students and I am looking forward to this journey growth and where it will take all of you!!! Mrs. Barberio :)
